Great Western – Band Bio Great Western is a four-piece outfit that keeps the spirit of classic cowboy music alive and riding strong. With rich harmonies, heartfelt storytelling, and authentic Western swing, they deliver the kind of music that feels like it rolled straight out of the bunkhouse and into your soul. Their motto says it all: “The West Lives On!” ### The Men Behind the Legend - “Tex” Callahan – Ex-Hollywood stuntman and lead vocalist/guitarist. After years of jumping off buildings, wrangling horses on film sets, and dodging explosions in Westerns, Tex traded the movie lot for the microphone. His deep, lived-in voice carries the grit and romance of the real West. - Buck Harlan – Former rodeo cowboy, fiddler, and harmony singer. Buck spent his younger days chasing bucking broncs and bulldogging steers across the circuit. That saddle-worn authenticity comes through every time he picks up the fiddle or tells a story between songs. - Randy “Slide” McCoy – Steel guitar and multi-instrumentalist. One of Nashville’s most respected (and wildest) session players, Randy has played on hundreds of records and collected enough road stories to fill ten lifetimes. His sweet, crying steel guitar is the heartbeat of the band’s sound. - Johnny “Hondo” Reeves – Lead guitar, bass, and the other half of the Nashville wrecking crew. Another top-tier session veteran with a guitar tone as big as Texas and a endless supply of crazy tales from the road. Together with Randy, they bring decades of pro-level musicianship and studio polish to every performance. What started as a group of friends swapping old cowboy tunes around a campfire quickly turned into something bigger. Drawing on traditional cowboy ballads, Western swing, and the storytelling tradition of artists like Michael Martin Murphey and the Sons of the Pioneers, Great Western creates music that honors the past while keeping it alive for new generations. From their 1969 classic *The Last Longhorn* — a poignant reflection on the fading era of the iconic Texas Longhorn — to their high-energy live shows that feel like a Saturday night at the old frontier dance hall, Great Western brings the real West to life with every note.
